Lagunitas and Tröegs were both, in a way, Cinderella "teams" in our epic summer brewbracket spectacular—and not because they aren't obviously great. Here was Lagunitas, going up against West Coast goliath Sierra Nevada in the second round. As a left coast brewer, overcoming a better-known rival among an east coast crowd was no small feat—yet the brew shone through.

Troegs had a different challenge—winning a play-in round. The beer powered through a grueling qualifier and shook off a second-round challenge from Otter Creek. Now the folks from Hershey must prove themselves on a national stage.
